Fabric Tote

Hello Friends! I worked on another fabric tote and this tote was super fun to make. If you're new to sewing, I do recommend this pattern because it's very straight forward and simple. I wanted the design of my bag to be more neutral so I used fabric with earthy colors rather than a bold or colorful design as shown in my pattern. I wanted to be able to use it with most of my clothing without looking too loud.

I definitely will create this bag again but next time, I'll use a floral print similar to the photos shown on the pattern package below.

I used home decor fabrics because they are very durable and hold up really well. I'm really rough with my bags so I wanted to use fabrics that will last. The only drawback about this pattern is that there are a lot of cutting that you need to do because it requires that you cut fabric, the lining, interlining, pocket and all of the fabric pieces, except the button loop require an interfacing. The sewing part of the bag is very simple so it took me longer to cut the pieces than it was to actually sew the bag.

The pocket is quite large that it fit my mini purse inside the purse. I wanted to use a satin fabric for the lining but I didn't have one on hand so I just a cotton fabric for the lining. . .it's okay but I think a satin lining would have been prettier.

The striped fabric has a satin feel to it but because it has an interlining it held the fabric real well and I did also add an interfacing which was not required but I wanted more body to the fabric so it wouldn't be so soft.

The home decor fabric really worked nicely for the handle area because it's really stiff and holds the bag up really well.

The loop and button keeps the bag close. I definitely will make more of this bag. I initially made this for my daughter but decided I wanted to keep it for my self! LOL! I'll make her a different one. . . it took about 6 hours from start to finish including tracing the pattern and cutting it out. Because I already have the pattern cut out and I know what I need to do to make the bag without having to read the instructions, it'll be faster for me to sew this bag again.

This is the pattern that I used. It's such a cute design!! I'll try the other pattern next time!!

Anyway, that's it for today! Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!!

Maria, your bag is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for the inspiration. I used to sew my bags then gave up sewing for a few years while I was working. Then I started to sew denim diaper bags for baby shower gifts. Then when I sarted making cards and scrapbooking, i got rid of my sewing machine. Last year my mom gave me hers cause she gave up sewing cause of her eyes. So...now that I see your beauatiful bag, guess I'll get the machine out and see if I can make me a denim bag. I love denim.

thanks fro sharing,
hugs
